For two months in 1993, I visited Sri Lanka in search of Nymphaea nouchali, the national flower and there called Nil Mahanel.

Dalada-Maligavi Temple in the capital city of Colombo:
I waited here for the guideboy who knew a very
special place for Nil Mahanel.

I searched on foot, by plane and by boat.

There were BIG surprises
. . . and small ones.
